Day to Day Work life

August 30, 2017

Everyday we set out to achieve something which can range from completing simple day to day tasks to working towards our dreams.  Today I share with you 3 brief points that may help you on your path to success.

“If you are working on something that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.”

Plan

Decide what you want or where you want to get to. You can’t cook your favorite dish without first knowing its recipe. Even in achieving your goals, you need to plan how you will work towards it and achieve it. Your plan could be detailed or short. It  to include ways reach them and leeway should be made should your plan fail. Rewards should be included in it. Short-term rewards will be more effective in keeping you motivated than long term rewards.

Focus

We’re living in a world full of distractions.  Things like phone notifications movies & series on the Internet are distractions and are fighting for your attention and often winning. Get rid of phone notifications and cut down time on non productive activities.

Reward

Reward yourself after achieving your goal reward yourself with something. Rewards may be intrinsic or extrinsic. Rewards should not be very large or very small but should be balanced. Research has however shown extrinsic rewards like money actually increases motivation. Intrinsic rewards that are tangible and foreseeable actually decrease motivation.

Lessons from Failure

August 13, 2017

Everyone fails at some point in life. It could be due to various reasons. Some people may have experienced failure at early stages of life while others may experience at a later stages in life. Some people may associate failure with a complete stop in life and may be unable to move on. However it is through failures that we learn the important lessons in life. The inventions that we see today like  aircrafts, the light bulb, telephone and so on were due to the failures of the people who tried to invent them but their failures did not stop them from reaching their final destination.

Most successful people in the world wouldn’t want to revert their clocks and go back to status quo instead they would rather be grateful for the failures they’ve experienced along the way. I share with you 4 things that I got to know about failure in my journey so far.

1.Failure is success delayed

Failure is not necessarily the end of the road. Sometimes when we fall the damage is little and other times its severe and hurt overselves. Most of the time, we’re worried more about the fear of failure rather than the failure itself. Questions such as What will others think of me keep pondering our minds. However we need to keep remind ourselves that failure is not necessarily the end of the road but its success which is delayed.

2. Transformation

No one has experienced success without first failing in one way or the other. Some may have had to endure only a few failures before success while others have endured thousands.

When you fail, something happens, you start transforming yourself and begin to refocus your priorities in life. You prioritize on things that matter to you. You begin to look inwards at yourself and at your life and you come to realize the things that are of utmost importance to you.

3. Perspective

Major failures may help you change your perspective on things such as time and money. Whether it’s failure in business, relationships, or anything else. The decisions we make in life have impacts and consequences on our life.

As long as you learn through failure, then you’ve made yourself a stronger platform for success in future.

4 People who you associate with

From each success or failure, you will be able to tell how many true friends you have. When you are successful everyone wants to be around you. But, when you fail, many of those so called friends disappear.

A true friend doesn’t care how rich you are or what car you drive or what you do but he is always there to always support you regardless of who or where you are.

Day to Day life

August 9, 2017

In this 21st century, our modern day life contains so much worry. Our mind is exhausted from various day to day things. Why can’t we tell ourselves that our happiness is one of the most important things in this life.

Today I share a few concepts with you from one of the books I read recently about success and happiness.

1.Nurture your Mind

Your mind can your most valuable asset or destructive weapon. It is estimated that about 50,000 thoughts pass through the human mind everyday. Most of these thoughts are useless or not important.

It is hard to let go negative thoughts especially criticism. They can mentally hinder your personal growth. Feeding your mind with positive and uplifting thoughts is crucial in attaining the success you desire.

      2.Be uncomfortable

Step out of your comfort zone. Success begins in the inside first. It is buried inside everyone of us. Identify the things holding you back from doing what you want to do and do them as you will be building on your own path to success.

The more the burning desire in you, the more successful you will become.

3. Value your time

Live as if today were your last day. Ask yourself what would you do if today was your last day?

Do not live a life of mediocrity. Push yourself to do more everyday. Most of our time is dedicated to the day-to-day activities, some of which influence the quality of our life. Say “no” to some things in your life and prioritize the important things.

4. Gratitude

Practice gratitude regularly in your life. The secret to happiness is helping others. Practicing gratitude daily plants an seed in you that each day is blessed. The richer the relationship you build around you, the more abundance comes your way.

5. Goals

Setting a goal will give our mind direction and a sense of motivation. Goal setting will help our mind to analyze where we are standing presently and also helps us stay on track.

Goals allow your mind to place an importance indicator on every thought you have, whether it is important or useless. It is something simple yet most people do not have or do not set goals . Goals are really just focusing your things you want and discarding everything else.

As I conclude this article, I will emphasize on time. It is one our our most important asset. Save time. Try learning something new everyday. Spend time doing what you like and look for new ways of doing it.  The above concepts are from my perception and I believe that there everyone’s perception is different. Some may agree with what I said and others may not.

My bumpy road

August 5, 2017

Its 7.30 am on 3rd May 2011, a chilly morning in Nairobi. The road was busy. People and cars seemed to go about their own hustle and day to day business.

I stared out the window and thinking about what I wanted to do with my life. I have always wanted to do everything in life when I was in high school starting from Software engineering, Finance, Computer science, Archeology and Geologist but was not focused on any of the options.

I had to make a decision in about 2months time but did not what do when I go to college, I found lots of people saying “Go for doing what you love.” which to me seemed so difficult to find. I was an avid reader about business/personal finance books and inspirational books which then led me to develop interest in accountancy.

I started off by failing the first papers as I did not have focus and mindset for accountancy but I realized that failing an exam doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t do it. It means you will even do better next time. Self belief is something which every student needs to have in my perspective.

The next few papers went relatively smoothly until I reached the Professional level where merely reading is not enough to tackle the exams as questions tend to scenario based. This is where I failed two papers again.

However with self belief and confidence,  support of my parents I was able to complete ACCA and now working as Audit and Tax semi-senior at a local audit firm.
